DescriptionThis film was made in 1961 when the Elizabeth Avenue campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's was formally opened. It features a number of well-known dignitaries including Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, Premier Joseph Smallwood, Eleanor Roosevelt and Lord Thomson of Fleet. Thousands of school children from all parts of the province took part in the parade up Elizabeth Avenue. -- Music: Royal Jamaican Military Band; St. John's Extension Choir, Memorial University of Newfoundland, director Ignatius Rumboldt.
