The home was founded by Catholic priest Raymond McVey, and is supported by Catholic parishes and other religious charities. Unity Acres is not a registered home and provides no rehabilitation except for Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. It provides a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental and supportive environment. Students from Oswego College help out at the shelter.
