TitleExperiment! Forgetting
SummaryHost Rob Pitt interviews Dr. Cathy Penney of the Department of Psychology, Memorial University of Newfoundland who specializes in memory and forgetting. Dr Penny explains two different kinds of memory: recall and recognition, defining forgetting as basically a failure of retrieval. A couple of brief experiments demonstrate that recall tests, even cued recall tests, are generally more difficult than recognition tests. Mnemonic techniques are also briefly discussed.
