AbstractThis book is a fictitious tale about a New England school teacher who goes to Kansas to teach children. Throughout the story, many allusions are made to conditions in the State of Kansas at the time. Chapters include commentary on the government, racial problems, and poverty that was endemic in mid-19th century Kansas. It deals with the struggle to make Kansas a free State.
