Abstract
The
present
study
determined
high
and
low
Machiavellians
ranking
of the
value
Honesty
on
Rokeach's
Value
Survey.
Secondly
, the
study
investigated
how these
rankings
are
affected
by the
subject's
participation
in a
dishonest
act.
Eight
groups
of
ten
subjects
were
tested
in a
2x2x2
factorial
design
employing
two
levels
of
Machiavellianism
,
two
levels
of
justification
for
cheating
, and
cheating
,
non-cheating
groups.
In
initial
ranking
of the
value
Honesty
,
high
Machiavellians
appear
to
place
a
lesser
importance
on the
value
of
Honesty
when
compared
to
low
Machiavellians.
Secondly
,
justification
and
cheating
behavior
interact
to
affect
the
subject's
ranking
of the
value
Honesty.
