Abstract
The
purpose
of this
project
was to
develop
an
instructional
unit
on the
history
of the
town
of
Trinity
,
Trinity
Bay
,
Newfoundland
to
supplement
the
Grade
Five
social
studies
program
in
Newfoundland
schools.
A
needs
assessment
was the
first
step
in the
design
model
that was
used
to
develop
the
unit.
The
results
of this
assessment
indicated
that a
need
existed
for the
production
of
materials
on this
topic.
A
slide-tape
format
was
chosen
as the
preferred
medium.
--
The
instructional
unit
was
evaluated
by
media
specialists
,
learner
specialists
, and a
content
specialist.
As a
result
of their
criticism
and
suggestions
,
revisions
were
made
at
various
stages
of
development.
The
project
was then
piloted
in
two
schools.
The
results
of the
pretest
and
posttest
were
analyzed
using
three
forms
of
data
analysis.
The
results
of this
analysis
were
positive
and
indicated
that the
slide-tape
presentation
,
Trinity
-
An
Early
Trading
Centre
,
is
ready
for
utilization
in the
Grade
Five
Social
Studies
program
throughout
the
province.
