DescriptionIncludes the long poem "The convict ship" and 90 other poems. Death and loss are recurring themes, and many references are made throughout to her native Scotland. Religious themes are also present, notably in a selection of poems dealing with Scriptural heroines. Peace also writes about local events, such as the St. John's fire of 1846. There are tributary lines at the end by fellow poet E. Marks, and a poetic exchange between the two authors about Scotland (p. 156-65).
