Ena Constance Barrett (1893-1967), born in England, already had published poetry by the time she married John A. Barret of Curling, Newfoundland, in 1920 and moved with him to the island. She continued to write in her new home, producing several poetry collections with many other poems being published in the periodicals of the time. (Bertram G. Riggs, "Barrett, Ena Constance" Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador, vol. 1, 134)
