DescriptionThe Patriot and Terra Nova Herald, initially named Newfoundland Patriot and undergoing several other minor name changes along the way, ran from 1833 to 1890. Editor and proprietor Robert J. Parsons was a Protestant member of the Liberal party, a longstanding Member of the House of Assembly, and closely linked to Catholics in the city. As such, the paper contains a great deal of Irish and Catholic news, and represents the political views of his faction. He died in 1883. (Kathleen M.
