Newfoundland and Labrador is discussed in two chapters: Chapitre VII, Les pécheries de Terre-Neuve (p. 135-54) describes the cod fishery and Chapitre IX, Les géants du Labrador (p. 175-93) describes whaling. Other creatures discussed include oysters, sea turtles, alligators, sharks, tuna, salmon, sea lions, giant squid, fish-eating eagles, and gudgeons.
