travels
around

hunt

people
and
customs
he
encountered
, and
observations
on
Newfoundland's
natural
history
and
physical
geography.
He
found
Newfoundlanders
to be
"[a]
simple

honest
,
industrious
,
good-natured
and
hospitable
people
, and
[to]
have the
virtues
of
all
hardy
races
exposed
to the
toils
and
dangers
of an
adventurous
life"
