Description	Gilt edges. Bevelled boards. Blue pebble-grain cloth. Yellow endpapers and pastedowns. Binder's ticket on verso of top pastedown: '\| BOUND \| BY\| LEIGHTON \| SON AND \| HODGE\|.' Both covers blocked identically in gold. Blocked on the borders in gold are:1. 'dog-tooth'decoration; 2. a gold fillet, blocked between two thin gold fillets; 3. a gold fillet, with repeating rectangles blocked in relief with-in it, blocked between two thin gold fillets. These last three fillets are blocked horizontally and vertically to form a rectangle. Within this reactangle a second set of the same double gold fillets with repeating rectangles is blocked horizontally and vertically so as to intersect and form a square at each corner. An elaborate swirling pattern of acanthus-like leaves is outlined in relief by gold blocking on the inner corners, and around the large central oval panel. The borders of the central oval have the same group of three fillets (no. 3 above) blocked on its borders. Between them, the words: '\| BIRKET FOSTER TOM TAYLOR \|' are blocked in gold. On the centre, the title, '\| PICTURES \| OF \| ENGLISH \| LANDSCAPE \|' is blocked in gold, surrounded by tree stem and leaf decoration blocked in gold. The spine is blocked in gold. From the head downwards, the decoration is: a thin gold fillet; a thick gold fillet; a group of three gold fillets - two thin, with the middle having repeating rectangles blocked in relief within it; leaf decoration blocked in gold: a group of fillets, blocked as above; leaf decoration; a group of three gold fillets, as above; the words: '\| BIRKET FOSTER \| ' are blocked in gold: a group of three fillets, as above; the words: '\| PICTURES \| OF \| ENGLISH \| LANDSCAPE \|' are blocked in gold, surrounded by tree stem and leaf decoration blocked in gold; a group of three fillets, as above; the words: '\| ROUTLEDGE & CO \|' are blocked in gold; a group of three fillets, as above; at the tail, a thick gold fillet and a thin gold fillet are blocked.
