Nova Scotia Historical Newspaper Project

Following a pan-provincial consultation session at the Nova Scotia
Archives, Libraries Nova Scotia with funding from the Nova Scotia
Community Access Program (C@P) facilitated a newspaper digitization
pilot project. The steering committee includes representatives from
Libraries NS, NS Provincial Library, Nova Scotia Archives and Records
Management, Beaton Institute, Cape Breton University (CBU), NS
Legislative Library, and Western Counties Regional Library.
The Nova Scotia Archives and the Mi'kmaq College Institute both hosted
scanning technicians who completed over 19,000 pages over a seven month
period. The Memorial University Digital Archives Initiative (DAI) is
hosting a selection of newspapers scanned at Cape Breton University. The
list features a complete run of the Micmac News and a selection of other
Cape Breton related papers. The publications available include:
