Digital Archives Initiative

Nova Scotia Historical Newspaper Project

Following a pan-provincial consultation session at the Nova Scotia Archives, Libraries Nova Scotia with funding from the Nova Scotia Community Access Program (C@P) facilitated a newspaper digitization pilot project. The steering committee includes representatives from Libraries NS, NS Provincial Library, Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management, Beaton Institute, Cape Breton University (CBU), NS Legislative Library, and Western Counties Regional Library.

The Nova Scotia Archives and the Mi'kmaq College Institute both hosted scanning technicians who completed over 19,000 pages over a seven month period. The Memorial University Digital Archives Initiative (DAI) is hosting a selection of newspapers scanned at Cape Breton University.
