1. It features a number of well-known dignitaries including Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, Premier Joseph Smallwood, Eleanor Roosevelt and Lord Thomson of Fleet. Thousands of school children from all parts of the province took part in the parade up Elizabeth Avenue. -- Music: Royal Jamaican Military Band; St. John's Extension Choir, Memorial University of Newfoundland, director Ignatius Rumboldt.
