97. Lewis Payne, Fishing, Town of Fogo Lewis Payne, Fishing, Town of Fogo Knowledge of the land/water and environment; Work; Migration/settlement At 16 or 17 years of age Lewis Payne started fishing. He did this for five summers then joined a coal boat. He was in a shipwreak off the Madeleine Islands and had to row 15 miles to Cape Breton. He then came back to Fogo and joined another freight boat. He worked on a long liner for 10 summers. He also worked at the fish plant for 3-4 summers and then retired. Lewis then gets out his book of poetry.
