In the 1950s and early-1960s, before the Shamrock Lounge was opened, people often gathered for a time in the parish hall or on the Bridge crossing the River.

6.	Whitewood Gully flows toward the River	Landscape;	Early in the salt cod fishery, rinds (strips of bark) were used to cover fish in wet weather. The banks of the Whitewood Gully had a good supply of spruce and fir trees large enough to provide four and five foot rinds. When the bark was peeled, the trees died and were known as whitewoods, giving the gully its name.

Wave-tossed boulders in the Rocks	Landscape;	The narrow shoreline at the base of the cliffs in the Wester Cove is a magical, natural playground, expanding and contracting with ocean tides and swells. This shoreline is known as the Rocks, referring to the many rocks of myriad shapes, colors and sizes.

14.	Waterfall at the base of the Green Gulch	Landscape;	Above the cliffs halfway out the Wester Cove, two forested hills descend and join to create the Green Gulch. The gully water cascades down the cliff face, creating an intimate waterfall far away - it seems - from everything else.
