(Samuel Alfred Browne), b. 1880 This file consists of two documents, both relating to Dr. Samuel A. B. Mercer, a Newfoundland born professor of Semantic Languages and Egyptology. The first is a letter written by Mercer to a family friend named Mary. The letter is very general, containing little insight on the writer or the recipient. The second document is Mercer's obituary dated January 13, 1969 from an unknown newspaper source, detailing his career as an Egyptologist and listing several of the honours bestowed on him for his work in that field. 331. Mews, H.G.R Mews, H.G.R These papers relate to H. G. R. Mews's service in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during World War I, and include letters written home to his mother and other family members, one letter he received, photographs of Mews in uniform, and postcards collected mainly in Scotland, France and Germany. Records documenting Mews's years as a St. John's city councillor and as mayor and his business endeavours, or other personal papers are not part of this fonds. COLL-267

Miller, Florence Miller, Florence Miller, Florence, 1889-1979; Duder, Edwin F.; United Church of Canada (Topsail, N.L.); Topsail (N.L.); Diaries; Correspondence; Poetry; Greeting cards; The papers of Florence Miller (1889-1979) consist primarily of daily diaries and poetry written by Miller at her home in Topsail, Newfoundland, covering the years 1928 to 1979. In addition there is a large number of short verses that she wrote and submitted to greeting card companies. There are short stories, local histories and genealogical material, a few photographs, as well as one play. There is a small amount of material relating to the United Church in Topsail. There is a significant collection of correspondence with a variety of people, including her good friend and fellow Newfoundland poet, Edwin Duder. And finally, although not directly related, there are articles written by Mary MacNeill-Duder, the wife of Edwin Duder. Coll-016; ASC-EAD0008

334. Miller, Raymond H. Miller, Raymond H. This fonds consists mainly of photographs of St. John's and Argentia during World War II, taken or collected by Raymond Miller, an American serviceman. The fonds includes an inland fishing licence issued to Miller by the Newfoundland Government in 1945 and a Zippo lighter case depicting the USS Cabot. MF-364

338. Montaqu, John Montaqu, John Admiral John Montagu's personal papers may exist in an archives, library or personal collection. The major source of information about him, however, comes from public - records: government, naval, vital statistics. This collection contains one item, a letter from Montagu to a Captain Talbot issuing formal instructions for Talbot to follow. It provides little - information, except to provide Montagu's full title and commission at that particular time: Rear Admiral of the Blue and Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Ships and Vessels - Employ[ed] and to be employ'd in the River St. Lawrence and along the Coasts of Nova Scotia, the Islands of St. John and Cape Breton and thence to Cape Florida and the - Bahama Islands. - - - MF-335
