Grenfell Labrador Medical Mission Grenfell Labrador Medical Mission This collection consists of over 100 photographs, postcards and magazine clippings relating to the Grenfell Mission at St. Anthony, Newfoundland during 1920's. There are images of the children under the care of the Grenfell mission, the day to day activities of the people of the area, photographs of the school and hospital established by the International Grenfell Association, and pictures and postcards depicting the rugged beauty of Northern Newfoundland and Labrador. They provide a survey of the provincial public and political issues that demanded attention and commentary over the years, such as resettlement, industrialization, and the political antics of Joseph R. Smallwood. There are also drafts of plays and sketches written by Guy while engaged in performing arts and theatrical activities. Other materials such as correspondence with fellow writers and questionnaires done by readers reveal where Guy found many of his topics. Also found within the collection are contracts with various publishing houses in the St. John's, providing a glimpse at the financial aspect of literary work, especially publishing. This collection documents the career of one of Newfoundland and Labrador's most prolific literary figures; and records public opinion and debate surrounding some of the province's most significant people and events.
