65. Wornell, Abe Wornell, Abe Businessman; politician; writer; community worker; the papers of A.C. Wornell provide insight into the life of a man who made substantial contributions to major facets of Newfoundland life. There is little from his business career but there is ample material to illustrate his involvement in the other areas cited. - He was a member of the House of Assembly during the last five years of the Smallwood premiership and an active participant in the 1969 Liberal Party Leadership Convention. He has written in a number of genre, capturing history, culture, tradition, commenting on politics, religion and social issues. - He was a member of the Methodist College Literary Institute during a period which saw that organization celebrate its centenary and adapt to changing times. - There are also journals and diaries from his father's years as a magistrate on the coast of Labrador including during the Spanish flu epidemic in 1919. This is a collection which requires careful scrutiny by researchers for them to realize its potential value to their work. - COLL-141
