The report filed by the Director of Child Welfare outlines the statistics of both unwed mothers and children who were under the care of the Division, both temporarily and permanently. Also included are explanations of issues facing the department and those it serves, as well as remedies sought to reduce them, letters submitted to the director by those working in the Division, and the Division's financial statement. The report of the judge of the St. John's Juvenile Court includes statistics of those who appeared before the Court, the financial statement, and letters submitted to the director pertaining to the operation of the Juvenile Court system.

His work provides information on the people, society, the fisheries, Labrador, Aboriginal Peoples and hunting; during his return voyage, he also recorded observations on the city of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia (p. 148-56).

(Introduction). The text is followed by appendices which form the bulk of the work. These feature detailed maps of the veins under discussion.

Folk songs from Newfoundland Folk songs from Newfoundland Karpeles, Maud Folk songs, English--Newfoundland and Labrador; Ballads, English--Newfoundland and Labrador in an effort to collect folk songs of English origin, Karpeles was to travel to Newfoundland with famed folklorist Cecil Sharp, who died before the trips occurred. She instead visited the island in both 1929 and 1930 and traveled to many outports, collecting over two hundred songs, noting that "in Newfoundland the 'old' songs were fast going out of fashion" (Introduction).

Forty years for Labrador Forty years for Labrador Grenfell, Wilfred Thomason,Sir,1865-1940 Labrador (N.L.); Physicians--biography; Missions and Missionaries--Newfoundland and Labrador--Labrador; Grenfell, Wilfred Thomason, Sir, 1865-1940 A rewrite of Grenfell's earlier autobiography, "Labrador doctor", this book contains the same chapters about the missionary doctor's youth and education as the earlier publication, while the rest has been changed completely. Not only had Grenfell completed 15 additional years of service in Labrador, he found that those years had changed his perspective on his life and work, and so felt that a new edition of his autobiography should reflect this new mind set and additional experiences as a doctor in Labrador.

(Ernest Henry), b. 1881 Grenfell, Wilfred Thomason, Sir, 1865-1940 A biography of Sir Wilfred Grenfell, a medical missionary who devoted much of his life to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Grenfell became a much-loved figure in Newfoundland and Labrador history who was responsible for building hospitals, orphanages, and schools for the people as well as healing the sicknesses and saving the souls of many.

(John Joseph), 1879 Medicine--Canada; Medicine--Newfoundland and Labrador This book gives a thorough description of early disease and medicine in Canadian and Newfoundland history. In the first of two volumes, Heagerty describes many of the diseases that badly affected early Canadians, the physicians and societies worked to eradicate the diseases, early medical methods, and finally the early days of public health in Canada. Newfoundland and Labrador are mentioned throughout the first ten chapters, as each of the small-pox, cholera, typhus, and influenza that killed many Canadians epidemics killed many within her borders as well. Also of note is how Newfoundland was the first place in the Americas to use the small-pox vaccine.

(John Joseph), 1879 Grenfell, Wilfred Thomason, Sir, 1865-1940; Medicine--Canada; Medicine--Newfoundland and Labrador This book gives a thorough description of the diseases that have played a major role in Canadian and Newfoundland history, and the physicians who worked to eradicate them. In the second of two volumes, public health in Canada is continued, and is followed by the history of the Canadian province's medical schools and major hospitals, and then a brief history of medicine in Newfoundland. At the time the book was written, Newfoundland was not yet a province of Canada, but a dominion of the British empire, and so it's medical history was not yet to be combined with the rest of Canada's.

From Quebec to Piccadilly and other places : some Anglo-Canadian memories From Quebec to Piccadilly and other places : some Anglo-Canadian memories Willson, Beckles, 1869-1942 Willson, Beckles, 1869-1942; World War, 1914-1918--Personal narratives, Canadian; Journalists--Biography This autobiography by Willson contains much information about his life as a an writer and journalist in both Canada and England, and also his work for the Canadian and British military during the Great War. Willson was at one point writing about Canada and Newfoundland for the English paper the Daily Mail, and spent 5 months traveling there for material for his articles; chapter 5 recounts his time in Newfoundland. The author also writes of meeting Robert Reid in Montreal, and on pages 56-58 recounts the story of the Reids and the Newfoundland Railway.
