LEWIS. fln QnestioiTof Wiloi Editor " Evening Telegram." Dear Sir,—In your issue of June 14th, I see your correspondent 44 Londoner" is rather strong in his views on the above question. It looks as if be were just a little 44 narrow-minded, bigoted and fanatical " exactly in the opposite direction to the 44 misguided " temperance man. But, being a Welshman, and knowing a thing or two about the little Principality, I was curious to see what a "Londoner" had to say. Now, he tells us something about •'The Sunday Closing- Act for Wales, and that the Government appointed a Royal Commission, under the chairmanship of Sir Matthew White Ridley, to inquire into the workings of the act, with a view to its abrogation." That Royal Commission has done its work most completely—has reported some time since. Will 44 Londoner," in his next, tell your readers what was the result of that Royal Commission in Wales, and if the Government has taken any steps towards the " abrogation " of the Sunday Closing Act for Wales ? Yours sincerely, HENRY LEWIS. Brigus, Juue 16, 1800. "A TAXPAYER'S" OPINION. -♦ Editor "Evening Telegram." Sin,—Did you ever hear or read such nonsense as that which appeared in Saturday's Colonist in re the collector for the Water Department of the Municipal Council ; and, to make matters worse, yesterday's Herald perfectly agrees with tbe same article. Now, my advice to tbe Council is to appoint a young, active and intelligent man for this responsible position; for, with all due respect for old men, they are not fit for it. For instance, collectors under municipal authority are out all weathers —blow high, blow low, wet and dry. Therefore, I would advise the Council as to whom they should give this trustworthy office ; further, I would say that there are several applicants who are not capable in any respect to fill the vacancy.
