Le Gaboteur

Le Gaboteur. Published 1984-2011
"Le seul journal française à Terre-Neuve et du Labrador", Le Gaboteur was sponsored with the assistance of Federation des francophones de Terre-neuve et du Labrador from 1984-Oct. 1987 but became independent after then. The name was derived from the French word "caboteur" meaning a person who travels to outports with mail, information and news(21). Published entirely in French, the paper is devoted mainly to news of the Newfoundland francophone community. In November 1987, the paper moved from St. John's to Stephenville to be closer to the main French-speaking area of the province, which is centered in the Port-au-Port region.
