Dervishes Defeated-Itcjoicing in Euglnnd — Cecil Rhodes Visits Loud on — Will Advise Annexation of Delaaoa Bay-Arinstice granted to Cuba. Halifax, N. S., April 11. Tlic defeat of the Dervishes has beeu decisive and there is great rejoicing in England in consequence. Cecil Rhodes visits London; he wants the British Government to annex Delagoa Bay. Queen Victoria offers her Highland residence to the Empress of Germany.The Chinese situation is peaceful. The Spanish Government grants an armsticc to Cuba. METING OUT JUSTICE In the Police Court. (Before Judge Conroy.) A 29-year-old fisherman, of Gower Street, arrested for being drunk, deposited one dollar and was given his freedom. William Lambswood vs. William White. The plaintiff had been bitten by tlie defendant's dogon the Gth inst. With the consent of the judge the case was withdrawn and settled by the defendant agreeing to give the plaintiff a new coat. An assault case between a brother and sister was dismissed. Two girls of Cabot Street were up on an old charge of keeping a disorderly house. 'I lie Girl* Were Arrested on the 15th of last month on the charge and pleaded guilty. They were given ten days to leave the country. Since that time the younger sister came to the Court and said, as her sister was very ill, they were uuable to leave the city. They were then given an extensiou of time by the Court, and, as the time had expired to-day, they were again arrested and sentenced to three mouths in the Penitentiary. LOCAL HAPPENINGS. Glove Picked Up.—The owner of a glove, picked up this morning near the Mechanics' Building, can have the same by calling at this office. Sealers at-the Hospital.—All the sealers who were sent to the Hospital from the Greenland and other ships are doing well, and in a fair way towards recovery.Koad Moneys.—tJreat dissatisfaction prevails over the way in which the Hay Bulls road monies are being spent. One man lias the whole business in his hands, and the people want a change. Skai.kr "Enchantress"' Arrives.— The schr. Enchantress arrived yesterday from the icefields.
