Couldn't keep the steamer's head to wind towing, and she began to fall in on the shore herself, and then ent the cable to get clear of the danger. Waited till 2 a.m. yesterday, and at high tide we ran out 100 fathoms of chain with our anchor, hacked in and towed the schooner off. Left for St. John's at 5 o'clock this norning, and arrived as stated. THE "NORMA'S" REPORT Her Rudder Carried Away- Trying Experience. Tiik XorM'i, 77 tons, Capt. John 4. Abncid with propeller £V»ne, about 25 miles S. from Cape J»:'ce on last Friday morning. Kan alongside of her, ISotti'itetf-, Toole and delivered them at Cape Hroyle, where we arrived on New Years Day, and anchored in the middle of the* harbor. We sent a message for a steamer to tow us on to St. .John s, and she —the N*mrod—instea \ of coming direct to our assistance, went roving around tne ocean, looking l"i that steann r reported by us. When our anchor was swinging he kept us there, and we went ashore, a breeze having sprung up. He couldu t tow us, and he cut our cable. Our vessel went ashore at Admiral's Cove, IVII in broad side, keeping upright, and about ten feet of her keel held on bottom - a i'at rock. Couldn't keep the steamer's head to wind towing, and she began to fall in on the shore herself, and then ent the cable to get clear of the danger. Waited till 2 a.m. yesterday, and at high tide we ran out 100 fathoms of chain with our anchor, hacked in and towed the schooner off. Left for St. John's at 5 o'clock this norning, and arrived as stated. THE "NORMA'S" REPORT Her Rudder Carried Away- Trying Experience. Tiik XorM'i, 77 tons, Capt. John 4. Made a temporary rudder out of about 70 fathoms of cable, four lenytlis lashed tooet'r.er, and then bound the lot togethr, after the style of a rudder. This rudder steered a little, but when wind came on anyway heavy wc steered mostly by the sails-. Put the schooner on course for St. ."John s. Sighted the S. S. Abncid with propeller £V»ne, about 25 miles S. from Cape J»:'ce on last Friday morning. Kan alongside of her, ISotti'itetf-, Toole and delivered them at Cape Hroyle, where we arrived on New Years Day, and anchored in the middle of the* harbor. We sent a message for a steamer to tow us on to St. .John s, and she —the N*mrod—instea \ of coming direct to our assistance, went roving around tne ocean, looking l"i that steann r reported by us. Our vessel went ashore at Admiral's Cove, IVII in broad side, keeping upright, and about ten feet of her keel held on bottom - a i'at rock.
