Analyses must be strictly included under the tallowing heads:— (aj Assays of metallic ores. (bj Assays of soils for agricultural purposes. t(«) Assays of water for domestic purposes. (&) Assays of beverages for alcohol. 2. Each 6ample must be marked in some distinctive way, either by number, or letter, etc. 3. Samples must uot be marked in general terms, as, " for analysis," but must be marked " for copper," " for gold," etc. At the same time the question may be asked, " Is this likely to be of value?" All applications must be made through the Surveyor General. 4. Samples will not be accepted from Companies or Syndicates who are actually working mines, nor from persons who can afford to bear the expense of an assay themselves. 5. Samples must be sent in their original form—not ground up. Two or three pounds in the case of minerals will sutlice; in the case of water, two gallons. G. Missing issue ranges: 3-7 April 1879, 5-6 May 1880, 29-31 December 1880, 31 March - 19 April 1881, 25-30 June 1895.
