CALLAHAN, Water-St., West. niaivMl,l\\,fp w ' Q~ 7 C COOKING l\ STOVES! The St. John's Gas Light Co. has just received another consignment of Eureka Gas Cookers, from Messrs. Jno. Wright & Co. The Eureka is the VERY BEST COOKER MANUFACTURED. General Information and Statistics Regarding the :::: :::: Utility of Gas Stoves :::: :::: OKC'Of ;msi n< ; the merits of the best gas ranges, their use has been generally ■V adopted in hospitals and other public institutions, iv hotels, clubs, colleges, large buMncss e>t:ibli>litniiits, &c. In National Schools of Cookery and all the Branch Schools wlitre cooking is taught, inchidinji the various School Boards, sc, ga» stoves are u*ed exclusively, and arc invariably recommended by the teachers who demonstrate in all parts of the kingdom. The opinions ol our greatest authorities havo been practically confirmed by the results obtained in these Institutions. At the London Hospital the daily cooking for 800 inmates is performed at a co«t of only 7«. Gd. for IP**, while only three pei>nns are employed to do the cooking and kitchen work. The stoves there after constant use for eight years have only needed repairing once. From a regttfer carefully kept daring the whole of this time the authorities are enabled to certify that the amount of waste has been considerably lessened by this system. They estimate that the saving of over £f»00 in meat alone has been effected, without taking into consideration the amount saved in fuel, labour and time; while the muwal saving of meat and fuel combined is no less than £400. At Mr. Wliiteiev's barinm establishment in Westbonrne Grove, London, where provision has to be made for 1,200 people, from 600 lbs. to 700 lbs. of meat are roasted daily for ")s. 3d., and 'JOO gallons of water boiled for tea at a cost of 10d., the annual saving amounting to £800. The following may be taken as the average consumption and coet of gas for the daily meals of a family of eight persons:— Breakfast—consisting of tea or coffee, ham and eggs, or chops, also toast, including hot water for washing up 20 Feet. Dmns—0 lbs. joint, pie, and milk pudding 35 " Soup, fish and vegetable? 20 " Hot water for washing up 15 " Tea—Hot water 10 " Total 100 Feet. This, at the rate of 81-75 per 1000 feet, would cost 17 cents per day, or when a joint is cooked only on alternate days the cost for each day would be something less. Sufficient baa been stated to justify the assertion that the conveniences of a Gas Stove are racfa that no household should be without one. The following testimonial needs no comment:— SECRETARY ST. JOIIX'S GAS LIGHT COMPANY: Peak Siu,—l have been using one of Wright & Cos. Patent Eureka Gas Cookers for the past four months and have found it work splendidly. You can either bake, roast, or boil, with ecjual facility, the heat being diOused uniformly, and v> very simple nn<l easy to manage. Taking into consideration its labor saving qualities anil cleanliness / believe it to he as economical as coal stove. (Signed), Yours truly, CHAS. R. POOL, Water Street. STOVES can be seen at the Co.'s Office and Works. The hire ranges from 50c. to $1 per quarter, or they can be purchased at cost and charges. For further particulars, apply to W. H.
