Halifax, N.S., June 5, A fire oocurred at the East London Aquarium, yesterday, destroyiog many of the wild animals. Some were removed and others were shot and bnrned, mcluding lion*, bears, jackals and monkeys. The roaring of the burniDg beasts was terrific. Sullivan says Ireland's worst enemies are those who commit dynamite outrages. A marked increase has been observable in agrarian crimes in Ireland during the past few days. The Republican Convention opened with prayer, and General Henderson was appointed permanent ohairman. Petitions were presented for prohibition and woman's suffrage. These petitions were referred to a committee. The resolution binding Delegates to support the nominee was withdrawn. The Presbyterian Assembly it Toronto have eleoted Dr. McLaren Moderator. The steamer Escurial, Captain Rittie, left New York yesterday for Halifax and St. John's. »♦• The surveying steamer Gulnaie left Cbarluttetown, P. E. Island, for this coast on the 2fitb ultimo. The barquentine Florence, Captain Samoa* Faoey, from Barbados, passed Quebeo on Taos day last, bound to Montreal. This is what they report from the Cape today :—" Wind west, fresh, fine and dear. 'Several schooners have been sighted steering northeast." «*. Errata.—ln latter part of first paragraph of political article yesterday, for " sufficient proof," read too much proof, and for "proprietor," in second paragraph, road proprietors. The handsome schooner Emulator, purchased by Edwin Duder, Esq., during his visit to Kogland last winter,arrived today,after a passage of 130 days from Cadiz. The Emulator is 155 toon. *♦* Telegraphic intelligence has just been received from Little Bay to the effect that the ioeblookade in that direotion has been " raised" and communication by water opened pretty well all over Qreen Bay. <*» A meeting of the Victoria Rangers—foot-ball club—will take plaoe at their rooms on Mo- Bride's Hill to-morrow eveniogat 9.15. As business of importance will be transacted, a {full attendance is particularly requested. ,*, The S.S. Hector, belonging to Messrs. Job Brothers & Co. and commanded by Capt. Jehu Brine, left here early this morning for Blano Sablon, taking a large quantity of fishery supplies for planters of the aforesaid firm engaged in that direotion. .♦. Generous Bequests.—ln the will of the late Lewis Tessier, Esq., merchant, two haodsome bequests were made—the one of five hundred pounds(s2ooo ito the Lord Bishop of Newfoundland towards the completion of the Cathedral; and two hundred and fifty pounds ($1000) to the Rev. Edward Botwood, Rector of St. Mary's Parish, for paroohial purposes. »♦. The Allan steamer Caspian, Captain Wylie, arrived here from Halifax between 5 and 6 last evening, after a somewhat longer passage than usual, owing to detention by fog.
