Despite the ubiquitous nature of computers, it is not necessarily getting easier to find information. The availability of more resources and methods with which to access information tends to confuse matters rather than simplify the life of the average user. This issue of Library Links will focus primarily on your 'virtual' library: what electronic resources are available; how you use these resources; where you can get help; how you can make the most of electronic information. It is meant to act as an introduction to help you become more comfortable and familiar with the Health Sciences Library's electronic resources. If you read about something that you think you'd be interested in using, hop onto our Web site and try it out! Virtually yours, Lindsay Glynn Electronic journals The Health Sciences Library has increased its electronic journal subscriptions significantly during the past year. As a result, new issues and questions regarding access and usage are arising from library users. Hopefully, the following information will clear up some of these questions. First of all, our electronic journal subscriptions do not mirror our print Volume XV, Number II ISSN: 0847-2815 subscription list. Some of our journals are available in electronic format only, others are available in print only, and others still are available in both electronic and print formats. Second, journal publishers offer varying levels of access with their electronic subscriptions. For example, some may offer full-text for the last five years and abstracts only for specified years prior to that; others may offer full-text only for the current year and abstracts only for selected previous years. There is no standardization among publishers at this point. In terms of access, there are three main ways to get to an electronic journal through our Web site: 1. Through the electronic journals Web page (www. med. mun. ca/hsl/sites/ ejournal.htm). This page provides an alphabetical list of health sciences electronic journals. 2. Through the library catalogue {info.library, mun.ca/). Which includes: a) all Memorial e-journals such as health sciences, and; b) e-journal years held information. The catalogue record for a journal will provide a link to the journal's Web site if we have an electronic subscription. 3. Through WebSPIRS (MEDLINE, CINAHL, IPA). A link to the electronic journal will be found in the library holdings message 1 What's Inside? § What's new on user services 2 X Winter 2002 course schedule 3 ^"' Full-text electronic resources 4 I ;> Off-campus access now easier... .5 STACKS
