The annual meeting of the shareholders pf the Royal liuuraucc Company was held recently at the company's bead offices, North John-street, ' Liverpool. Mr. Italph Ilrocklebank, the chairman of directors, presided, and there was a huge attendance of directors nnd shareholders. . The re*>ort for the year 1889 showed that the ' aun.nnt at the credi||0f the profit and loss ac- j count, after payment of the dividcud and income tax for the year 1888 was £168,:t.'.0 Os 'Jd; ! to which bad been ndded £351,279 Os id. being profit ou the fire department, interest I on lire fund, interest not carried to other j accounts, and shareholders' life profits (live years), making together _J19,G29 Is 'Jd. Annual license fee on all Fire and Lifo Insurance Companies doing business in St. John's, 9100. 7. All persons, non-residents of this colony, who come to Newfoundland to vend goods, wares and merchandize, or to represent others vendors of such good*, wares and merchandize not residents in this .-olony, shall be prohibiten from doing any business in this colony, unless they shall first receive from the Municipal Council a written license to do such business; such license shall be dated on the day of its issue, and shall extend to a period of twenty days from its date, and no longer. No more than one licensee shall bo named in such license. For every such "license a fee of ilfty dollars shall be paid by the licensee. In case any snch person shall transac any business in this colony wltbont having firs obtained such license, be shall, for every day it which he shall transact business in Newfoundland, forfeit and pay a sum of one hundred dollars, to be recovered in a summary manner before any stipendiary magistrate by any person wbo may sue for tbe same, and if such sum be not forthwith paid tbe offender may be committed to prison for any term not exceeding ten daya for each day oo -wbich he shall have transacted business without such license. The St. John's Municipal Council, in accordance with the foregoing, hereby give notice to all parties concerned,-that licenses will be Issued by tbe undersigned Secretary of tho St. John's Municipal Council, at Ills Office, on to-morrow (SATURDAY) and each lawful day tbcreafler between the hoars of 10 o'clock, a.m., and 6 o'clock, p.m.; and notico is further given, that proceedings will be taken against all' persons failing to comply with tbe provisions of tho law (By order), p. 1. Three per cent, on rental of houses within
limits of town paying rent over 930 and nol
paying water and sewerage rales, and not otherwise exempt.
2. Two and a half per cent. on rental of al
property of which the rents are remitted to nonresidents of tliis colony.

Individuals, $3.
Annual license fee on all cabmen for each
horse, $3.
5. Annual license fee on resident auctioneers
$10.
6. Annual license fee on all Fire and Lifo Insurance Companies doing business in St.
John's, 9100.
7. All persons, non-residents of this colony,
who come to Newfoundland to vend goods,
wares and merchandize, or to represent others
vendors of such good*, wares and merchandize
not residents in this .-olony, shall be prohibiten
from doing any business in this colony, unless
they shall first receive from the Municipal Council a written license to do such business; such
license shall be dated on the day of its issue, and
shall extend to a period of twenty days from its
date, and no longer. No more than one licensee
shall bo named in such license. For every such
"license a fee of ilfty dollars shall be paid by the
licensee. In case any snch person shall transac
any business in this colony wltbont having firs
obtained such license, be shall, for every day it
which he shall transact business in Newfoundland, forfeit and pay a sum of one hundred dollars, to be recovered in a summary manner before any stipendiary magistrate by any person
wbo may sue for tbe same, and if such sum be
not forthwith paid tbe offender may be committed to prison for any term not exceeding ten
daya for each day oo -wbich he shall have transacted business without such license.
The St. John's Municipal Council, in accordance with the foregoing, hereby give notice to
all parties concerned,-that licenses will be Issued
by tbe undersigned Secretary of tho St. John's
Municipal Council, at Ills Office, on to-morrow
(SATURDAY) and each lawful day tbcreafler
between the hoars of 10 o'clock, a.m., and 6
o'clock, p.m.; and notico is further given, that
proceedings will be taken against all' persons
failing to comply with tbe provisions of tho law
