" Bi sulphite of Lime will certainly nnswer
perfectly for preserving Bait sound and fresh- a
considerable time- On the 8th of December, last
year (1874), Mr. Williambow of New York,
sent us six carks of oysters, removed from tho
shell; nearly all were disposed of; and eaten
hero, perfectly aweet and fresh as the day they
were opemd ; for weeks tbe writer of this letter
nearly lived on them, and we retained four jars
for further test and experiment, and after twelve
tnontlis they were opened and found sweet and
fresh as ever, but had lost some of their plumpness.
A nd from a gentleman of this city well acquainted with such matters, the subscriber has
received the following letter:
St. Johk's, Jan. 18th, 1870.
Chas. F6X, Esq.
Dear. Sir,—1 have r nd with much interest
your papets t* re Bi-sslphiteof Lime as a Bait-
preserver, and belioie it to be of very great
value.
1 have no doubt Caplin and Squids treated
with Bi-eulphito could be carried down to the
