| Abstract | This book is a collection of letters written by the author during his travels throughout several Midwestern and Pacific States in America. Chapters include information on relationships with Indian tribes, the Rocky Mountains and the prosperity of gold mining in those regions, the Mormon religion and practices, the city of San Francisco, and the Pacific Railway. Several chapters discussing the Mormons include the author's opinions on polygamist relationships as well as Mormon social life. A primary theme throughout this book is the climate and scenery of the regions through which he travels, and these are depicted in great detail. Several maps and illustrations accompany this text. |
