| Abstract | These books are a collective history of New France, areas in the United States, and other parts of Canada. Beginning in 1610, the conversion of the Indian groups to Christianity is discussed in some detail, as well as the creation of settlements in what we now know as Quebec. They also contain the letters of several important people from the 17th century, including Pierre Biard and Marc Lescarbot, along with biographical information. These texts also include much of the Jesuit history, as well as documents pertaining to the actions of the Jesuit leaders of the 17th century, such as their return to France in the year 1616. Other chapters depict the dangers of travelling through the Canadian wilderness, as well as the hardships of sailing to Quebec from Europe. Several illustrations and portraits are included. |
