| Abstract | This book documents the exploration of the Salt Lake Valley in Utah, and survey information gathered for the United States War Department. Chapters include topics such as the Sioux Indians, the absence of timber in the area surrounding Salt Lake, Mormons and their rumored opposition to the expedition, and warm and cold springs in the Salt Lake Valley. Also included within this text is reconnaisance information on new routes through the Rocky Montains to make easier access to the Salt Lake area. Several maps and illustrations are found within this book. |
