Discussions with Pope Pius IX are also included within this book. The chapters span several topics including purgatory, communion, scripture and tradition, and keeping of the Catholic faith.

It contains reprinted versions of earlier works, such as Walter Henry's 'Dissertation on the State of Agriculture in England', believed to be the first book about agriculture written by an Englishman. Other sections of this book date from around the 13th century and describe the state of agriculture in the Middle East, such as 'The Book of Agriculture' by Kitab al Falahah, or 'The Book of Thrift'. There are also sections that deal with husbandry on the farm, as well as the care and benefits of livestock. There are several illustrated panels with this text.

There are accounts of his voyages to the Barbadoes and Africa, a shipwreck, the failure of several African missions, his return to Europe and the creation of the Welsh missions.

Many of these letters deal with farm equipment, including Agricola's opinions on threshing mills, and reaping machines, and the treatment of manure. Several letters also deal with geological factors of the landscape in Nova Scotia, such as the alkalies and natural salts found in the soil, and the cultivation of this land for economic value. The book concludes with a letter considering land in Nova Scotia with relationship to the employment of capital.

The religion of Islam is discussed in several chapters, as well as the style of clothing, and certain customs of the inhabitants. Other chapters focus on Biblical history, such as studying the geography of area where Jesus was said to be baptized. Brief accounts of regions of Lebanon are also included, such as a description of the Druze population and their practices and belief structure. Several full page illustrations are included in each of these texts.

Several sections of this book discuss specific medals from the Roman and Greek periods and give information on the history and legends surrounding them.

They also contain the letters of several important people from the 17th century, including Pierre Biard and Marc Lescarbot, along with biographical information. These texts also include much of the Jesuit history, as well as documents pertaining to the actions of the Jesuit leaders of the 17th century, such as their return to France in the year 1616. Other chapters depict the dangers of travelling through the Canadian wilderness, as well as the hardships of sailing to Quebec from Europe. Several illustrations and portraits are included.
