The confessions of al Ghazzali
'The Confessions of al Ghazzali' is an autobiographical story of Ghazzali, a Muslim mystic and theologian who lived in the 11th century. Chapters discuss his search for truth through religious ideals, the ideals presented in several philosophical sects, and the aim of scholastic theology. Ghazzali also dealt extensively with the idea of reality in inspiration and its importance for the human race. Information on the religion of Islam is also included, such as Ghazzali's dealings with the Imams of Iraq.

The section on city gamesters includes cribbage, all-fours, brag, lottery, and French and English billiards. The final section, gentleman's diversion, describes such activities as riding, racing, archery, cocking, and bowling, along with any necessary information.

Many chapters deal with selective breeding of fighting cocks and there are a number of tips on how to avoid unwanted traits. Recommended cross-breeds are also discussed in this text, such as a partridge hen with a dark black-breasted Birchen duck. The final section includes tables the reader might use to fill in names and characteristics of his own fighting cocks.

This book is a fictional account of the adventures of Sam Slick. It was first published in Halifax in 1839 and served as a comic commentary on Nova Scotia's social scene. The main character speaks with an exaggerated Yankee accent and often represents the stereotypical American. This is thought to be one of the first pieces of British fiction to be published in Nova Scotia. Chapters deal with such topics as slavery in the United States, Canadian opinions of the British, and Canadian politics. Several illustrations are included throughout this text.

These volumes deal with the breeding, housing, and training of canary birds. Chapters deal with cage making, breeding 'mules', canary diseases, and moulting. The second volume contains a large amount of information on the many different breeds and types of canaries, such as the Glasgow Don, the Belgian, the Norwich Fancy and the Lizard. There is also some information on canary societies and groups devoted to this hobby. Several illustrations of canaries are included.

This text is a history of the Canadian Northwest, including the discovery of the Hudson Bay in 1610, the discovery of the Northwest by the Sieur de la Verendrye in 1731, Verendrye's voyage and travels throughout North America, interaction with the Indian population, and the importance of the fur trade. The Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company are also discussed at length, including the divisions within the North West Company, growing conflicts between the two, and Lord Selkirk's voyage to North America. One section deals specifically with the difficulties faced by the Scottish settlers at the Red River Settlement in 1816.

This book is a narrative of the British attacks against the American cities of New Orleans and Washington during the year 1814. It contains information on the preparation of British troops before the attacks, as well as information on the battles themselves. Military forces are described at great length, with special attention being paid to the role of the British infantry in these battles, as well as colonial forces from Canada. This text ends with the capture of Washington by the British forces, and the effects this had on the political landscape in America after the war.

There are chapters on several important battles fought in Mesopotamia, such as the Battle of Kut, the capture of Basra and Amara, the advance towards Baghdad, and the occupation of Nasiriya. The importance of troops from India is also discussed, as well as British troop movements and support. Several maps and illustrations are also included.

This book is a discussion of the formation of the Union government in Canada in 1917. Chapters include information on Sir Robert Borden's efforts for Unionism, the western Liberal convention, and eventually the formulation of the Union government, as well as Sir Wilfred Laurier's campaign and policy. Also included within this book are examples of Union economic and social policy, as well as how they related to the local populations in Canada. Many charts portraying the financial status of the government during this period are included.
